Hegeler Carus Mansion and Jeffris Family Foundation Partner on Historic Structure Report
‘Through this partnership and the hiring of RATIO, the Mansion will have a solid roadmap for future preservation and restoration efforts.’
The Hegeler Carus Mansion is partnering with the Jeffris Family Foundation through a generous, 50% grant to hire RATIO to develop a new Historic Structure Report for the entire Mansion. This report will guide future fundraising, preservation and restoration of this architectural gem, providing for a sustainable future.
The Jeffris Family Foundation, one of the most reputable philanthropy organizations in the Midwest, assists in the development of historic sites for non-profit organizations in small towns and cities in eight states. Their pivotal investments in properties such as the three presidential homes - William Henry Harrison's "Grouseland", Warren Harding's, and Rutherford Hayes's "Spiegel Grove" allow these magnificent treasures to return to their glory.
RATIO, a national design firm based in Indianapolis and specializing in historic preservation architecture, has been hired to complete the new Historic Structure Report. RATIO has a reputation of planning and executing projects for nationally significant properties like the Hegeler Carus Mansion and has worked on numerous Jeffris funded projects.
Upon completion of the Historic Structure Report in 2026, the Hegeler Carus Foundation will begin Capital Campaigning Efforts to raise funds for those priorities determined during the preparation of the report.
The Hegeler Carus Mansion is an 1876 Second Empire masterpiece and National Historic Landmark designed by architect W. W. Boyington. With seven levels, fifty-seven rooms, and 24,000 square feet, this magnificent mansion showcases intricate parquet floors and hand-painted ceilings. Beyond its architectural splendor, the mansion played a pivotal role in industry, philosophy, publishing, and religion.
