Hegeler Carus Mansion Partners with Local Unions on Safety
‘Apprentices in SMART Local 1 fabricated custom fire extinguisher stands for the Hegeler Carus Mansion.’
La Salle, IL: The Hegeler Carus Mansion formally acknowledged their partnership with SMART Local 1 on the fabrication of custom fire extinguisher stands by hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, April 14th, at the Hegeler Carus Mansion.
SMART Local 1 partnered their apprenticeship programs with the local unions to fabricate custom fire extinguisher stands throughout the Hegeler Carus Mansion. The stands provide a secure, elevated stand for the fire extinguishers while avoiding disturbing the historic surfaces in the Mansion. The unions not only provided the labor for this project, but also all of the materials and powder-coating. Powder-coating services were donated by SMART Local 1 contractor Standard Sheet Metal Works.
“Working with local training programs is so rewarding,” says Laura Walker, Executive Director. “This project not only provided a much-needed material asset to the Mansion but allowed us to connect with SMART Local 1 providing learning opportunities and community engagement with their students.”
Following a recognition of SMART Local 1 and their apprentices, the ribbon was cut, and students were provided a tour, showcasing their fire-extinguisher stands throughout the Mansion.
